Theme

The inaugural LSAC conference has two themes: professionalism and diversity.

Professionalism – exploring issues around the expertise we as learning specialists bring to the institution such as:

  • What common theories and best practices underpin our work?
  • How do we learn to do what we do?
  • What can we do to become better learning specialists?
  • Who is doing research in our field?
  • Where can you network with learning specialist colleagues from other institutions across Canada and the world?
  • How do you hire learning specialists?

Diversity – exploring the variety of settings and students that comprise our work:

  • General learning specialists who work with the learning issues of any student
  • Learning specialists who work with – or mainly with – specific groups of students such as students with disabilities, engineering students, Aboriginal students,  graduate students, etc.
  • Learning specialists who spend much or all of their time teaching courses or workshops
  • Learning specialists who support students in learning specific course content.

As a group we have a tremendous wealth of experience that can be tapped by coming together.  This promises to be an exciting conference and we are looking forward to seeing as many of you as possible in Winnipeg!
